The Lloydminster Athletics came out flying on home ice, opening the scoring early in the first period when Blair Erickson found the back of the net, assisted by Drew Stang and Cahan Lessard-Williams. However, the Bow Valley HC response was swift and decisive. Just 46 seconds later, Jakub Lorenc tied the game, and before the period was out, Keegan Bailey gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. The first frame was a chippy affair, setting the tone for a penalty-filled contest, with both teams trading minors. Despite being outshot 18-8 in the period, Lloydminster goalie Sam Lai did his best to keep his team within striking distance.
The second period saw the physicality escalate, culminating in a massive scrum near the midway point that resulted in four roughing minors handed out to Bow Valley's Vojtech Bulat and Keegan Bailey, and Lloydminster's Madden Lorenson and Rhys Horon. While no goals were scored in the middle frame, the constant parade to the penalty box disrupted any flow the Athletics hoped to establish. Bow Valley’s Ivan Tourin stood tall in net, turning aside all nine shots he faced to preserve the one-goal lead heading into the final period.
The third period was an offensive explosion for Bow Valley HC, who put the game completely out of reach. They scored four unanswered goals in a dominant stretch, starting with Vojtech Bulat just three minutes in. Tadeas Pavlik and Rylan Wold each tallied, with Bailey netting his second of the game to cap off a multi-point night. Lloydminster's Drew Stang managed a late consolation goal, but it was far too little, too late. The game ended on a sour note for the Athletics as Rhys Clayton was assessed a minor and a misconduct for an illegal check to the head. Bow Valley’s commanding 6-2 victory was built on a relentless attack and a sturdy performance from Tourin, who earned the win between the pipes.
