The 18U AAA Victoria HA and Coquitlam HC treated fans to a back-and-forth thriller that saw Coquitlam snatch a dramatic 4-3 victory in the final minute. Victoria came out flying, with Cole McNabb opening the scoring early off assists from Mathias Ramos-Gadbois and Evan Kim. Coquitlam answered back quickly, however, as Matteo Kokkas found the net to tie the game. The second period saw Victoria build a two-goal lead with Abi Maas and goaltender Mathias Ramos-Gadbois—who showed his versatility by jumping into the play and scoring—both beating Coquitlam's Malcolm Katuski. Despite being outshot 12-6 in the first and 15-4 in the third, Victoria held the lead heading into the final frame.
The third period was where discipline—or lack thereof—proved decisive. A parade of penalties for Victoria, including minors to Murdoch Tashe, Bryce Heggie, and Abi Maas, gave Coquitlam the opening they needed. Brady Desharnais capitalized on the power play to cut the deficit to one, and Colby Monette tied the game shortly after, with Markus Halliwell and Matteo Kokkas picking up their second assists of the night. With under a minute to play and the game seemingly headed for overtime, Blake Miller delivered the dagger for Coquitlam, scoring the game-winning goal off a setup from Jacob Keller and Christiano D’Addabbo to complete the comeback.
While Victoria’s Mathias Ramos-Gadbois was heroic in net with 20 saves and even contributed a goal, the relentless Coquitlam attack—which fired 32 shots on goal—ultimately proved too much. Coquitlam’s Malcolm Katuski earned the win in a game where goalie stats were not fully tracked, but his team’s persistent pressure and late-game composure made the difference. For Victoria, costly penalties and a third-period shot deficit of 15-4 turned a potential victory into a heartbreaking defeat, showcasing just how quickly momentum can shift in junior hockey.
