The 18U AAA Lethbridge United and Lloydminster Athletics kicked off their contest with a high-octane first period that saw three goals and plenty of action. Lloydminster struck first on the power play, with Albert Muravsky finding the back of the net, assisted by Easton Benoit. The Athletics doubled their lead midway through the period when Blair Erickson scored at even strength, with Rhys Horon and Benoit picking up the helpers. However, Lethbridge answered back before the period ended, as Carter Jensen got the home team on the board with assists from Delphin De Boer and Dane Wood, cutting the deficit to 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
The second period belonged to Lethbridge, who turned the game on its head with a pair of goals. Capitalizing on a power play opportunity, Colin Fancy buried the puck to tie the game, with Tyce Perkins providing the primary assist. Just under two minutes later, Perkins turned from passer to scorer, giving Lethbridge their first lead of the night with a crucial even-strength goal, assisted by Hudson Gauld. That goal would stand as the game-winner in a contest defined by special teams and momentum swings.
The third period was a tense, defensive battle as Lloydminster pressed for the equalizer. Lethbridge’s discipline was tested, taking two minor penalties in the final frame, but their penalty kill and goaltender Drake Chester stood tall. Despite being outshot 40-27 overall, Chester was a wall when it counted, securing the win for Lethbridge. Sam Lai was strong in the Lloydminster net, turning aside 41 of 44 shots, but it wasn't enough as Lethbridge’s second-period surge proved decisive in a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
