The 18U AAA Calgary Rockies and Bow Valley HC delivered a tense, physical battle that saw the Rockies emerge with a narrow 3-2 victory. The game was a story of special teams and a dramatic third-period comeback. Bow Valley struck first in the second period, with Tadeas Pavlik (#88) converting a setup from Jack Deglow (#22) and Trigger Two Guns (#44) to give the visitors the lead. The Rockies responded just over three minutes later with a crucial shorthanded goal from Brody Bilick (#72), knotting the game at 1-1. However, Bow Valley's penalty kill also found success, as Cade Morey (#17) restored their lead with a shorthanded marker of his own, assisted by NiKylo Emerson (#29), sending the visitors into the final frame with a 2-1 advantage.
The third period belonged to the Rockies, who turned up the offensive pressure with a dominant 16-shot performance. They found the equalizer early, as Graydon Proctor (#92) buried a feed from Liam Beswick (#98) just 53 seconds into the period. The game then settled into a tense, back-and-forth affair with both goaltenders, Cooper Schmidt for Calgary and Jack Hunter for Bow Valley, standing tall under a barrage of shots. The turning point came in the final minute. With Bow Valley's Jack Deglow in the box for a high-sticking minor, the Rockies' power play went to work. With just 25 seconds remaining on the clock, Nolan Van Waes (#17) became the hero, firing home the game-winning goal off assists from Seth Scutt (#16) and Carson Paulgaard (#10), sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
The game's conclusion was anything but quiet, however, as the final horn triggered a massive altercation that resulted in a staggering series of penalties and ejections. The main event was a match penalty and game misconduct assessed to Calgary's Liam Beswick (#98) and Bow Valley's Connor Eeles (#19) for facemasking/pulling hair. This sparked a cascade of roughing minors and misconducts to numerous players from both sides, including Jackson Cowan, Devon Beecher, Brody Stovka, and Nolan Van Waes for the Rockies, and Tyler Bomak, Jack Deglow, Keegan Bailey, and Daniel Dvorácek for Bow Valley. Both benches were also thinned as staff members Jessie Tresierra and Nick Oldring received game misconducts. Despite the chaotic finish, the Rockies held on for a hard-fought two points in a game that showcased both high-stakes hockey and intense rivalry.
