The Coquitlam HC 18U AAA squad set the tone early and never looked back, securing a decisive 6-2 victory over Island HC in a game that featured a flurry of first-period action. Coquitlam's Jacob Keller, wearing number 27, was the offensive catalyst right from the opening face-off. He opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, assisted by Xander Dibble and Cameron Ogilvie. After Island's Liam Butsavich answered back to tie the game, Coquitlam defenseman Nathan Hillmann restored the lead. Keller then struck again just 17 seconds later, converting another feed from Dibble for what would stand as the game-winning goal, giving Coquitlam a commanding 3-1 lead before the first period was even halfway over.
Island HC showed some fight in the second period, capitalizing on a power play as Aaron Christian found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, that was as close as they would get. Coquitlam's goaltender Rhys Penninga stood tall, turning aside all 30 shots he faced after the first goal to effectively shut the door. The third period belonged entirely to the home team. Jaehun Kim, number 24, erupted with two goals in a 15-second span, both set up by Matteo Kokkas, to blow the game open. Markus Halliwell then added a power-play goal to cap off the scoring, as Coquitlam's offense proved too much to handle.
The game grew increasingly chippy as it progressed, with Island HC accumulating several costly penalties. A major turning point came late in the third when Ian Jaksch was assessed a minor for an illegal check to the head and a accompanying ten-minute misconduct, leaving his team shorthanded. Coquitlam's discipline was tested as well, with Brennan Peppler taking two minors, but their penalty kill and Penninga's stellar netminding held firm. In the end, Coquitlam's explosive start and a balanced scoring attack, led by Keller's two-goal performance and Kim's quick-strike double, paved the way for a convincing win on home ice.
