The 18U AAA Island HC and Calgary Rockies delivered an early special teams showcase that set the tone for a back-and-forth battle, with the home team ultimately holding on for a narrow 4-3 win. Island HC capitalized on their first power play opportunity just over three minutes into the game, as Hunter Yanick found the back of the net, assisted by Nolan Ganter. The Rockies responded midway through the period when Maddox Gullage scored, with Devon Beecher picking up the helper, to tie the game at 1-1. However, a late penalty against Calgary gave Island HC another man-advantage, and they made it count. Just 14 seconds after the infraction, Brendon Daniels restored the lead, with Yanick and Ian Jaksch providing the assists, sending Island HC into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead and momentum from a 13-10 shot advantage.
The second period saw the lead change hands twice in a flurry of activity. The Rockies' power play unit answered the call early, as Devon Beecher scored to tie the game at 2-2, with Jackson Cowan and Joel Otto assisting. Island HC's Carter Stamp-Vincent responded to reclaim the lead at 10:09, set up by Jaksch and Tripp Reynolds. The physicality ramped up significantly, culminating in a pair of roughing minors and matching 10-minute misconducts for Island HC's Aaron Christian and Calgary's Ayden Starko. Just before the chaos, Hunter Yanick struck again for Island HC, netting his second of the game to give his team a 4-2 cushion heading into the final frame.
The third period was a tense, defensive struggle, with Island HC managing to protect their two-goal lead for most of it. A key moment came when a penalty shot was awarded against Island HC for closing a hand on the puck, but the Calgary shooter was denied. The Rockies finally broke through on a shorthanded effort with just over two minutes remaining, as Joshua Van Den Bussche scored, assisted by Adam Sexton, to pull within one and set up a frantic finish. Despite a late push and a 6-7 shot deficit in the period, the Island HC defense and goaltender Leonidas Barkoulas stood tall, preserving the 4-3 victory in a hard-fought contest that featured seven different goal scorers and plenty of penalty box traffic.
