The final minutes of regulation were a firewagon hockey display, with the Athletics unleashing 28 shots in the third period, testing the mettle of the Calgary defense. The game required extra time, and it was there that Nolan Van Waes cemented his status as the hero, scoring unassisted just over a minute into the overtime session to complete his game-winning double and seal a hard-fought, character-building win for the Calgary Rockies.
