The 15U AAA Island HC put on a clinic in defensive hockey and opportunistic scoring, blanking the Calgary Rockies 4-0 on the road. From the opening faceoff, Island HC dictated the pace, outshooting the Rockies 12-3 in the first period. Their pressure paid off early, even while shorthanded. Just over four minutes into the game, Island HC's Koen Abbott was sent off for tripping, but it was the penalty killers who struck. At the 15:31 mark of the first, defenseman Ben Broekhuizen, assisted by Colton Scott, pounced on a chance to net a shorthanded goal, which would stand as the game-winner. Rockies goalie Luca Mummery was under siege from the start, facing a relentless 33-shot attack from Island HC.
The middle frame saw the visitors extend their lead with a pair of quick strikes. First, at 7:46, Cayden Rainford found the back of the net, with helpers from Cameron Thompson and the ever-involved Ben Broekhuizen. Just over a minute later, at 6:33, Austin Aydon buried another even-strength goal, again set up by Cameron Thompson, pushing the lead to 3-0. The Rockies managed to generate more offense, firing nine shots in the period, but they could not solve Island HC's netminder Archer Mah, who was perfect on the night. A roughing minor to Tieryn Taylor-Savard was the only blemish for Island HC in the period, but their penalty kill, already boasting a goal, held firm.
Any hope of a Rockies comeback was extinguished in the third period. Ben Broekhuizen capped off a stellar multi-point night with his second goal of the game at 6:03, assisted by Austin Chute and Bevan Ansley, to make it 4-0. A late tripping penalty by the Rockies' Joshua Monteith was a mere footnote in a game fully controlled by the visitors. Archer Mah turned aside all 22 shots he faced to earn a shutout, while at the other end, Luca Mummery made 29 saves in a valiant effort for the Rockies, who were simply overwhelmed by Island HC's complete team performance and sharp special teams play.
