HC Edmonton came out flying in the first period and never looked back, skating to a decisive 7-3 victory over the Lloydminster Athletics. The home team set the tone early, with Jack Kemila scoring twice in quick succession. His first goal, assisted by Brayden Kuo, was followed just over four minutes later by another, this time with helpers from Kuo and Grayson Monea. Lloydminster managed to answer back when Riddick Ford found the net, assisted by Evan Dufresne, but the Athletics' Blake Lovberg capitalized on a power play late in the period to keep things close, ending the first with HC Edmonton holding a narrow 2-1 lead.
The second period saw HC Edmonton begin to pull away. Grayson Monea scored an even-strength goal, assisted by Carter West, to extend their lead. The physical play picked up as well, with penalties for tripping and checking from behind creating a chippy atmosphere. Despite being outshot 14-5 in the middle frame, Lloydminster’s goalie Riggins Tymchysyn did his best to keep his team in the game, but the relentless pressure from HC Edmonton was starting to show.
Any hopes of a Lloydminster comeback were dashed in the third period. Carter West scored a power-play goal, with assists from Brody McAuley and Magnus Lindberg, to give HC Edmonton a comfortable cushion. Lloydminster's Mason Morin responded with a goal to make it 4-2, but HC Edmonton slammed the door shut in the final minutes. Parker Leonhardt and Bentley Homstol each buried empty-net goals, and Magnus Lindberg added one more for good measure at even strength, sealing an emphatic 7-2 win. While the final score was lopsided, Lloydminster’s netminder Riggins Tymchysyn faced a barrage of 32 shots, while his counterpart Jayden Gardner was solid in the HC Edmonton net, turning aside all 17 shots he faced to secure the victory.
