In a game defined by a stunning goaltending performance, the 14U AAA Northstars HA emerged with a 4-2 victory over the South Sask HC despite being heavily outshot. The story of the night was Northstars goalie Gage Cutler, who stood on his head to turn aside a remarkable 46 of 48 shots, anchoring his team through relentless pressure. South Sask HC dominated possession from the opening faceoff, firing 17 shots in the first period alone. They were rewarded on the power play at the 5:40 mark when Bryce Scrupps, assisted by Oaklen Rogers and Jett Girodat, gave the visitors an early lead. The Northstars showed resilience, however, and with just 35 seconds left in the period, Luke Collins found the back of the net, with helpers from Kyle Courtney and Ben Mitchelmore, to send the teams to the intermission tied 1-1.
The second period saw more of the same territorial dominance from South Sask, who poured another 16 shots on Cutler. Yet, it was the Northstars who struck against the run of play. Brody Sullivan, wearing number 22, scored an unassisted even-strength goal midway through the frame to give the home side a 2-1 lead heading into the final period. The third period began with a flurry of Northstars offense that would seal the game. Just 13 seconds in, Lincoln Wigle, assisted by Sullivan and Linden Collins, scored what would stand as the game-winning goal. A mere seven seconds later, Luke Collins struck again for his second of the night, extending the lead to a commanding 4-1 and stunning the visitors.
South Sask HC refused to quit, continuing their offensive barrage with 15 more shots in the third. They finally solved Cutler again when Oaklen Rogers scored, assisted by Rowen Istace and Keenan Williams, to cut the deficit to 4-2 with just over two minutes to play. Despite a late penalty to the Northstars, their defense and the stellar play of Cutler held firm to secure the two-goal victory. While South Sask HC's goalie Slater Amiot faced only 24 shots, the Northstars made their chances count, with Luke Collins' two-goal night and Brody Sullivan's goal and assist leading the offensive charge in a textbook example of opportunistic scoring and heroic goaltending.
