The Okanagan HC 17U AAA squad, led by their captain, delivered a commanding 4-1 victory over the visiting Victoria HA in a game defined by special teams and standout leadership. The home side set the tone early, as captain Kayden Patkau opened the scoring just over three minutes into the first period. Victoria responded quickly, however, with Jacob Heinonen finding the net off a feed from Blake Sanderson to knot the game at 1-1. The first period was not without its early discipline issues, as Victoria was assessed a bench minor for too many players and Ryder Rendle took an interference penalty, but Okanagan could not capitalize on those early advantages.
The second period proved to be the turning point. Okanagan regained the lead for good at the 13:32 mark when Jake Gagno buried the eventual game-winner, with assists from the red-hot Patkau and Mason Casorso. The middle frame became a parade to the penalty box, with four minors called in a frantic eight-minute span. It was during this special teams chaos that Okanagan's captain struck a decisive blow. With his team shorthanded, Patkau found the net again, this time with help from Jaxon Everett, to extend the lead to 3-1. Victoria's goalies faced a barrage, with Caleb O’Gorman stopping 25 of 28 shots before being relieved by Alex Dorrell late in the period.
Okanagan sealed the deal in the third period on the power play. After William Brain took his second interference minor of the game, the home team's power play unit connected. Jaxon Everett, who had assisted on the shorthanded marker, now scored one of his own, with Patkau returning the favor with an assist to complete a four-point night (3 goals, 1 assist). At the other end, Okanagan netminder Nicholas Cresswell was a wall, turning aside all 28 shots he faced after the first-period goal to backstop his team to victory. Despite a late push and outshooting Okanagan 10-9 in the second, Victoria could not solve Cresswell again, as Okanagan's disciplined structure and their captain's heroic performance carried the day.
