The 17U AAA Island HC and Wolves HC delivered an offensive showcase that saw Island HC emerge with an 8-5 victory in a game defined by special teams and momentum swings. The Wolves struck first when Jaxon Burkosky-Gilmour finished a play set up by Tearin McKeigue just under five minutes into the contest. Island HC responded fiercely, however, with a power-play marker from Casey Bukta and even-strength goals from Maksim Kostadinov and Wyatt Fyfe to take a 3-1 lead after the first period, outshooting the Wolves 16-8 in the process.
The second period proved disastrous for the Wolves, as a major penalty for an illegal check to the head gave Island HC extended power-play time that they ruthlessly exploited. Wyatt Fyfe netted his second of the game on the man advantage, followed quickly by power-play goals from Max Munroe and Oliver Luttrell. Jonathan MacLean added an even-strength tally to cap a four-goal outburst that put Island HC firmly in control. The Wolves managed a response late in the period from Deegen Waldner, but the damage was done, with the period ending 7-2.
Refusing to go quietly, the Wolves mounted a third-period charge on the power play. Wyatt Scott and Jaxon Burkosky-Gilmour, with his second of the night, scored to cut the deficit to three. But any hope of a miraculous comeback was snuffed out just seconds later by Rylan Turgeon, who scored a shorthanded goal for Island HC to restore their cushion. Dominick Colbourne added a late goal for the Wolves to complete the scoring, but it was too little, too late. Despite a valiant 12-4 shot advantage in the final frame, the Wolves couldn't overcome the special teams dominance and a 39-28 shot disadvantage overall, as Island HC's Ryder Kent earned the win in net.
