The Langley HA 17U AAA squad set the tone early and never looked back, defeating the Victoria HA 17U AAA team 4-2 in a spirited Junior Prospects Hockey League matchup. Langley came out flying in the first period, unleashing 18 shots and building a commanding 3-1 lead. The scoring started on the power play, with Ryan Morris converting a setup from Micah Sidhu and Carden Fraser. Sidhu then turned scorer, netting an even-strength goal assisted by Preston Penno and Fraser. Ivan Latyshev extended the lead with what would stand as the game-winner, helped by Zachary Smith. Victoria managed to get on the board late in the period when Blake Sanderson scored, with Nathan Laird picking up the helper.
The middle frame saw the penalty boxes get a workout, with both teams combining for six infractions. Victoria capitalized on one of their power play opportunities, with Milo Maurer scoring to cut the deficit to 3-2, assisted by Laird and Sanderson. However, Langley's penalty kill stood tall for the rest of the period, and their goalie Nevan Coburn was a wall when called upon. Despite being outshot 10-12 in the period, Langley maintained their slim lead heading into the final frame.
The third period was a tighter, more defensive affair. Langley effectively shut down Victoria's attack, limiting them to just six shots. The game's intensity boiled over in the final minute, resulting in a flurry of penalties, including unsportsmanlike conduct calls and a misconduct. With the Victoria net empty in a last-ditch effort to tie the game, Cashton Smith sealed the victory for Langley with an empty-net goal, assisted again by Zachary Smith. Nevan Coburn earned the win in net for Langley, turning aside 18 of 20 shots, while Caleb O'Gorman made a valiant 55-save effort in the losing cause for Victoria.
