The Coquitlam HC 17U AAA squad delivered a commanding performance from start to finish, blanking the Lloydminster Athletics 6-0 in a game that showcased their offensive firepower and defensive discipline. Coquitlam set the tone early, outshooting Lloydminster 17-5 in the opening period and never looking back. Damien Nikal opened the scoring midway through the first period, finishing a nice setup from Keenen Canales and Ethan Caputo. Just minutes later, Danwoo Kim doubled the lead with an unassisted even-strength marker, sending Coquitlam into the first intermission with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The second period saw Coquitlam extend their lead with a pair of quick strikes. On the power play, Keenen Canales buried one with help from Charlie Pena and Lucas Kim. Just eleven seconds later, xavier sedor-steer made it 4-0, assisted by Cristiano Pelegrin-Hicks. The period grew increasingly chippy, with multiple roughing minors and a flurry of misconducts handed out late in the frame to players from both sides, including Coquitlam’s Charlie Pena and Forest Barnes, and Lloydminster’s Kru Schira and Beckett Larre, signaling the game's rising frustration level.
Coquitlam put the final nails in the coffin during the third period. Seajay Loreti scored early, assisted by Lucas Robbins and Lucas Kim, and Dayton Holenstein added a shorthanded goal midway through to cap the scoring at 6-0. Despite a parade to the penalty box in the final frame—including cross-checking, slashing, and unsportsmanlike conduct calls—Lloydminster could not solve Coquitlam’s defense or goaltender Joel Paladino, who turned aside all 12 shots he faced to earn the shutout. The Athletics, who managed only 12 shots total in the game, simply had no answer for Coquitlam’s relentless attack and structured team play.
