The 17U AAA Calgary Rockies and Kootenay HA treated fans to a back-and-forth offensive showcase, with the Rockies ultimately emerging with a hard-fought 4-3 road win. The game ignited early, as Kootenay's Xavier Barrett, wearing #9, opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest, assisted by Max Parker and Liam Barker. The lead was short-lived, however, as Calgary's Matthew Morrow (#19) responded just over a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Barrett struck again for Kootenay midway through the period, netting his second of the night to restore the lead. The momentum swung back to Calgary late in the period when, on a power play resulting from a slash by Kootenay's Nixon McDonald, Rossi Bensmiller (#15) buried a setup from Turk Lesnar and Merrick Thomson to send the teams to the first intermission deadlocked at 2-2.
The second period saw the Rockies seize control. Just 1:44 into the frame, Brayden Pickard (#18) gave Calgary their first lead of the night, assisted by Markus Bessey. Kootenay answered quickly, as defenseman Johnny Stewart (#3) found the back of the net less than a minute later to knot the score at 3-3. The game's decisive moment came at the 14:01 mark of the second when Calgary's Lincoln Schultz (#4) converted a pass from Brayden Pickard and Eric Kovacs to score what would stand as the game-winning goal. The physicality ramped up in the third period, highlighted by a major penalty for checking from behind assessed to Calgary's Eric Kovacs (#8) with just under five minutes to play. Despite a late power play and pulling goalie Corbin Watson for an extra attacker, Kootenay could not solve Rockies netminder Kyler Olsen, who shut the door in the final frame.
While Kootenay outshot Calgary 38-34, the stellar goaltending of Calgary's Kyler Olsen was the difference. Olsen turned aside all 10 shots he faced in a tense third period to secure the victory. For Kootenay, Corbin Watson was solid with 31 saves on 34 shots, but the early offensive flurry from Xavier Barrett and a late goal from Johnny Stewart weren't enough to overcome the balanced attack of the Rockies, who got goals from four different players to claim the two points.
