In a Junior Prospects Hockey League classic, the 17U AAA Wolves HC edged out the 17U AAA Titans Hockey Union 4-3 in a back-and-forth overtime battle. The game was a tale of momentum swings, with the Wolves striking first just under five minutes in when Easton Smallwood, assisted by Boston Engel and Logan Pedersen, found the back of the net. The Titans responded quickly, as Lincoln Bartel, set up by Brady Critchley and Kayne Bennetts, tied the game just 59 seconds later. The Wolves' power play, however, gave them the lead again before the first intermission. With the Titans serving a hooking penalty, Jaxon Burkosky-Gilmour converted a pass from Wyatt Scott and Kade Gitzel to make it 2-1. The opening frame was a penalty-filled affair, with the Titans taking three minors, which allowed the Wolves to control the shot count 12-4.
The Titans roared back in the second period, flipping the script and dominating possession with a 12-4 shot advantage. Their own power play unit clicked when Matthew Vanak of the Wolves was sent off for slashing. Shepard Lehto, with helpers from Declan Benson and Seth Hantelmann, buried the equalizer to knot the game at 2-2. The third period saw both teams trading blows. Seth Hantelmann gave the Titans their first lead of the night, finishing a play from Benson and Athan Kyle. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Wolves' Easton Smallwood struck again for his second of the game, assisted by Vanak, to tie the score at 3-3 and force overtime.
The extra frame was a tense, sudden-death affair. The Wolves managed the only shot on goal, and they made it count. At the 4:38 mark of overtime, Jace Frencheater became the hero, firing home the game-winner. He was set up by Austin Lake, who had earlier taken a check-from-behind penalty, and Kade Gitzel, who picked up his second assist of the night. The Wolves' resilience paid off, securing a hard-fought road victory in a contest where both teams' special teams and top scorers were on full display.
