The 17U AAA HC Edmonton squad used a relentless offensive attack and capitalized on Coquitlam's penalty troubles to secure a 3-1 road victory in Junior Prospects Hockey League action. Edmonton set the tone early, outshooting Coquitlam 13-8 in the opening period and breaking through at the 5:38 mark when Ryan Quintilio finished a play with assists from Lealand Brokop and Charles Barner. Just when it seemed Edmonton would carry the lead into intermission, Coquitlam's Josiah Lacerte provided a stunning response, scoring a shorthanded goal with just eight seconds remaining in the period to tie the game at 1-1.
The middle frame proved decisive as Coquitlam's discipline issues mounted. After taking three minor penalties in the second period alone, including two by Keenen Canales, Coquitlam's penalty kill finally cracked. Edmonton's Logan Rowbotham converted on the power play at 3:24, with Kale Whitney and Lealand Brokop picking up assists on what would stand as the game-winning goal. Just over a minute later, Hudson Deren added another power play marker, assisted by Jacob Paquet and Ryan Quintilio, giving Edmonton a commanding 3-1 lead that they would never relinquish.
Despite a late push that saw Coquitlam outshoot Edmonton 10-7 in the third period, they couldn't solve Edmonton netminder Linden Zaichkowsky, who turned aside all 24 shots he faced for the complete game victory. The game grew increasingly chippy as it progressed, with both teams combining for 11 minor penalties, including three by Coquitlam's Keenen Canales. While Coquitlam's Joel Paladino made 27 saves in a valiant effort, his team's inability to stay out of the penalty box ultimately proved too much to overcome against Edmonton's potent power play.
