In a dominant display of special teams and goaltending, HC Edmonton’s 17U AAA squad blanked Island HC by a score of 4-0. The tone was set early when Noah Horvatis capitalized on a power play just over six minutes into the first period, converting a setup from Hudson Deren and Boston Matter to give Edmonton a lead they would never relinquish. That goal proved to be the game-winner, as Edmonton’s offense continued to pressure Island HC, outshooting them 13-8 in the opening frame and setting the stage for a comprehensive team performance.
The middle period saw Edmonton extend their lead when Jacob Paquet found the back of the net, assisted by Jagger Holcomb and Brogan Carther. Despite taking a boarding penalty by Greyson Howse late in the period, Edmonton’s penalty kill held strong. The third period showcased Edmonton’s versatility, as Gabriel Robitaille scored at even strength off feeds from Lealand Brokop and Kale Whitney, and then Brogan Carther delivered the dagger with a shorthanded goal, assisted by Nathan Ghostkeeper and Jagger Holcomb. Edmonton’s discipline was tested with multiple penalties in the final frame, but their special teams excelled, scoring shorthanded while killing off infractions.
The story of the game, however, was written in the crease. Tristan Flegg was perfect between the pipes for Edmonton, turning aside all 26 shots he faced to record a well-earned shutout. At the other end, Marek Fisher of Island HC faced a barrage of 32 shots and conceded four times, as his team struggled to solve Flegg or contain Edmonton’s balanced attack. With this commanding win, HC Edmonton demonstrated a potent mix of offensive firepower, special teams execution, and stellar goaltending.
