The 17U AAA Island HC squad claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kootenay HA in a game defined by strong goaltending and special teams. Despite being outshot 31-20, Island HC capitalized on their opportunities, with goaltender Ryder Kent turning in a spectacular performance, stopping all 31 shots he faced to earn a shutout victory. The game's outcome was heavily influenced by power plays, with the lone power play goal of the game proving to be the difference-maker.
Kootenay came out flying in the first period, firing 16 shots on Kent and breaking through at the 10:56 mark. Liam Barker scored the opening goal, assisted by Brady Dyer and Kiatiruch Phawatjirachot, to give the home team an early lead. However, Island HC responded quickly, as Jonathan MacLean netted the equalizer just under two minutes later, set up by Michel Rechon-Reguet and Max Munroe. The period ended with dramatic tension as a late slash by Nixon McDonald gave Island HC a power play, which Wyatt Fyfe converted with just 13 seconds remaining in the man-advantage, assisted by Cooper Hollink and Gavin Robertshaw.
The final two periods became a goaltending duel. While Kootenay continued to press, their offensive efforts were stymied by the stellar play of Kent in the Island HC net. The game grew increasingly physical, with both teams taking minor penalties, but neither could solve the opposing goaltender at even strength or on the power play. Kootenay's Corbin Watson was solid with 18 saves on 20 shots, but the early power-play goal against proved insurmountable as Island HC locked down defensively to preserve their narrow lead and secure the road victory.
