The Langley HA 17U AAA squad delivered a commanding performance on home ice, blanking the Kootenay HA 6-0 in a game that showcased their offensive depth and defensive discipline. Langley set the tone early, outshooting Kootenay 9-6 in the opening period, but it was in the second frame where they broke through. Ivan Latyshev opened the scoring with an even-strength marker, assisted by Reid Birtch and Aric Reeve. Just over three minutes later, KJ Raymond capitalized on the power play to double the lead. Mason Cvitkovich then netted what would stand as the game-winning goal late in the period, giving Langley a comfortable 3-0 cushion heading into the final twenty minutes.
The third period saw Langley continue their relentless attack, adding three more goals to seal the victory. Mason Cvitkovich scored his second of the game early in the period, followed by Zachary Smith who tallied twice—once at even strength and once on the power play late in the game. Reid Birtch was a force on the ice, assisting on three of Langley’s goals, while Cashton Smith and Duncan Gronberg also contributed key helpers. Between the pipes, Aidan Lazazzera was perfect for Langley, turning aside all 28 shots he faced to earn a well-deserved shutout.
Penalties played a significant role, with a flurry of roughing minors handed out midway through the third period after a heated scrum involving multiple players from both sides, including Langley’s Mason Cvitkovich and Micah Sidhu, as well as Kootenay’s Jaxon Derosier and Lane Johnson. Kootenay struggled to generate consistent offense despite outshooting Langley 12-13 in the final period, and their goalie Mateo Sinclair faced a barrage of 33 shots in the loss. The victory was a complete team effort for Langley, who used special teams effectively and received contributions up and down the lineup to secure the decisive win.
