The 17U AAA clash between the Langley HA and the Coquitlam HC was a game defined by special teams and a chaotic finish, with Coquitlam emerging with a 4-2 road victory. The tone was set early in a wild first period that saw a staggering seven infractions called, including a major penalty for charging to Langley's Ivan Latyshev. It was during this special teams chaos that Coquitlam struck first; despite being down a man, Charlie Pena found the back of the net shorthanded, assisted by Josiah Lacerte, to give the visitors an early lead. Langley responded quickly, however, as Tyson Osterberg, set up by KJ Raymond, evened the score at 1-1. The period ended with Langley holding a significant 20-13 shot advantage, but unable to solve Coquitlam goalie Joel Paladino again.
Langley carried their momentum into the second period, taking their first lead of the game when Ryan Morris converted a feed from Mason Cvitkovich. The middle frame saw more penalties, but it was Coquitlam who capitalized at even strength. Keenen Canales, who was heavily involved in the physical play earlier, tied the game at 2-2 with an assist going back to Charlie Pena. The turning point came early in the third period. With Langley's Kanta Gojsic in the box for tripping, Coquitlam's power play went to work. Ethan Caputo buried the eventual game-winner, assisted by Keenen Canales, to give Coquitlam a lead they would not relinquish. Just over a minute later, Danwoo Kim added an insurance marker, assisted by Damien Nikal, to put the game out of reach at 4-2.
The final minutes descended into absolute mayhem. With just seven seconds remaining on the clock, a massive altercation broke out, resulting in a jaw-dropping sequence of penalties. Ten different players, including both goaltenders Joel Paladino and Nevan Coburn (who had relieved Aidan Lazazzera), were assessed roughing minors and accompanying ten-minute misconducts, clearing both benches and ending the game in a bizarre and contentious fashion. Despite being outshot 48-34, Coquitlam's Joel Paladino was perfect in net, turning aside all 48 shots he faced for a remarkable shutout performance in relief of the stat line, while his team capitalized on key opportunities to secure the win.
